Compare between engineering and true strain, which one would you use in deformation operations and why?

Solution

Engineering quantities takes the original material parameters where as true quantities takes instantaneous material parameters. In this way, engineering strain is change in length divided by original length and true strain is change in length divided by instantaneous length.

In the deformation operations true strain is used in the relations of flow stresses.
