Describe superconductivity: Describe the principles of graded-index optical fiber design: Name 3 technological devices that rely on magnetism and magnetic materials:

Solution

Superconductivity:-

Superconductivity is defined as “the ability of certain materials to conduct electric current with practically zero resistance”.

Superconductivity produces the interesting and the potentially useful effects. For a material to behave as a superconductor, low temperatures are required.

Graded Index Optical Fiber:-

A Graded Index Optical Fiber has a refractive index that decreases with increasing radial distance from optical axis of fiber.

Light rays sent through Graded Index fiber do not circulate in a straight line but rather are always refracted towards the fiber axis in a parabolic index profile.

Magnet and Magnetic Materials:-

The magnets can be made by placing magnetic materials like iron or steel in a strong magnetic field.

Types of magnets:

Permanent magnets

Temporary magnets

Electro-magnets

Different Magnetic Materials:

                        Ceramic

NdFeB

                        SmCo

                        Alnico
