Below is how each of the DMAIC phases use tools and techniques can help to create standardized processes -

1. Define phase - Use of standard documents and tools like Project Charter, Process Flowchart, Work Breakdown Structure, Stakeholder Analysis to determine the project goals and the customer deliverables.

2. Measure phase – The current performance of the processes is found out by measuring using tools like data collection plan, benchmarking, process capability etc. These help the performance to be quantified.

3. Analyze phase – The root cause of the defects and deviations in the processes is identified in this phase using tools, which include histogram, pareto chart, scatter plot, regression analysis, Cause and Effect diagrams etc.

4. Improve phase – Once the root cause is found out, the defects need to be eliminated and the processes need to be improved. This phase uses the following tools – brainstorming, mistake proofing, House of Quality, FMEA, Pugh Matrix, Design of Experiments etc. which help in finding solutions or workarounds to improve the processes

5. Control phase – After the process improvements and standardization, the process performance in future needs to be monitored and controlled using tools like Control charts, control plans, process capability, six sigma etc.
