Following elements are required for network:

1. Hardware: It includes network cards, routers, switches, repeaters etc. These provide means of accessing a network.

2. Software: It isssues commands to interact with hardware. Primary form of networking software is protocol.

3. Connection Media: Without the connections, network can\'t function. There are various cables, fibre optical cables etc. Wireless networks use direct connection between devices using radio signals as medium.

4. Client devices: These are computers and mobile devices connected to the network.

Protocols are set of rules for exchanging the information. Without a set of rules, the computers wont be able to talk across the internet. Without the protocol, a transmitting computer may send data in 8 bit packets whereas receiving computer may expect 16 bit packets. Thus, creating the miscommunication.
