1.       Suppose a gun manufacturer’s demand is 34,400 parts per month. The company works 5 days per week and on average 20 days per month. There are two, eight hour shifts. Lunch is 30 minutes per shift. Two, ten minute breaks are taken per shift. Calculate the takt time.

0.5 minutes/unit

2.5 minutes/unit

1500 seconds/unit

2.6 minutes/unit

0.5 minutes/unit

2.5 minutes/unit

1500 seconds/unit

2.6 minutes/unit

Solution

Minutes available per shift = 8hrs x 60 minutes - 30 minutes - 10 minutes - 10 minutes

= 430 minutes

Minutes available in two shifts = 430 x 2 = 860 minutes

Minutes available per month = 860 x 20 = 17,200 minutes

So, minutes per unit = 17,200 / 34,400

= 0.5 minutes/unit

So, option A is the correct option.
