Needs assessment process is the process in which needs are determined and then addressed. Needs assesment is used by organizations to determine its needs, and to make organizational improvements. This process is used to determine the gap between where an organization is at present and where it wants to be in future.
Types of analysis: (i) analysis of the current position of the organization in terms of its market position or availability of resources or possession of technology (ii) analysis of where the organization want to be in future (iii) analysis of data - data will have to be collected from primary research and secondary research from internal company records and from external sources. This data and information is then analyses to identify and determine the needs.
Information from the needs assessment process impacts the overall training design process. The information helps in determining the performance gap and thus helps in developing the training module that focuses on the areas of knowledge that are identfied in the gap.
