Why do you think Altitude Online uses two PC platforms—Windows and Mac—rather than standardizing on one? What are the benefits and drawbacks of their decision?

Solution

Both windows and MAC are most widely used GUI based operating systems. most of the people prefer either of these OS. So any software deploying company should address these two OS while developing any product because GUI based OS users prefer to play games and expect using applications with good graphics. Hence , altitude online also focuses on both these OS platforms.
If they standardize on any one of the platform they would lose the market and product gets depopularized due to interoperability on platforms. Suppose if a person has two PC (1 windows and 1 MAC ) he wishes to play on any of it and then if the application is available on any one platform he doesnt prefer to use the application next time.Hence the benefit is capturing and increasing the market.
But the drawback is more cost is incurred in making the application for all platforms. also maintenance costs are heavy when interoperability between platforms is required.
The total costs incurred should be managed well or else the company gets into losses.
