The sum of two consecutive even numbers plus the next odd nu

The sum of two consecutive even numbers plus the next odd number is 242. Write an algebraic equation that can be used to solve this problem. _________________________ and What is the odd number?

Solution

Let the even number be 2n. Here, n is an integer.

Then the next even number is 2n+2.

and next odd number is 2n+2+1

According to the question:

6n+5=242

or, 6n=237

or, n=237/6

or, n=39.5

so, 2n is 79. This is wrong because we have assumed 2n to be an even number.

Since n is not an integer, so any such number is not possible.

The sum of two consecutive even numbers plus the next odd number is 242. Write an algebraic equation that can be used to solve this problem. ___________________
