14. Lee has twice as many dimes as nickels and two more quarters than dimes. The total value of the coins is $8.00. Find the number of coins of each denomination.

Solution

Let

Nickel=x

Dime =2x

Quarer = 2x+2

since total worth is 8, set up equation as

0.05x +0.1(2x)+0.25(2x+2)=8

0.05x +0.2x+0.5x+0.5=8

0.75x=8-0.5

0.75x=7.5

x=75/7.5

x=10

Therfore,

Nickel=10

Dime =20

Quarer = 22
