Describe how and why a CMF is applied ?
Solution
CMF stands for Cyclophosphamide ethotrexate Fluorouracil.CMF is a combination of drugs used to treat breast cancer.CMF is often used as a treatment for patients suffering from primary breast cancer. In this stage the breast cancer is limited to the breasts and has not spread to other parts. In certain circumstances it is also given in case of secondary breast cancer where the breast cancer has spread to other parts of the body. CMF chemotherapy is usually given in 4-6 cycles .A break of 3 weeks is given between each cycle so that the body can recover from the side effects of chemotherapy. The dosage is calculated based on the height and weight of the patient.CMF chemotherapy is usually administered intravenously by inserting a cannula in the vein of arm.The drugs are then injected in the canula through a syringe.Subsequently the drugs enter the bloodstream.
