Explain how information systems influence businesses to be more competitive, efficient, and profitable?

           Information systems have definitely changed the way we do business in today’s society. Information systems are those that are a set of components that can store or retrieve information in a larger system, which provides assistance in large decisions made within the company (Laudon, & Laudon, 2016, p. 16). Information systems help everyone get the data they need to be successful, no matter the size of the organization or what type of company it is. Information systems are able to store and produce results to help a major organization identify how successful the event was or will be in the future.

While becoming such a digital media and technology age now, information systems have grown tremendously over the last few years. Having access to information, any processes, procedures, business operations, etc. can all practically be done with information systems, which this expands labor to be conducted globally more than just locally. This influences businesses to be more competitive, efficient, and profitable. If a company can make smart decisions on investments of information systems, they would find themselves in an advantage when compared to competitors Laudon and Laudon (2016).

Provide at least one example for each factor.     

Competitiveness is mandatory in today’s society for a business to be successful and remain relevant in the global market. Several organizations rely significantly on information systems, so the ability to expand and connect with different parts of the world can make an organization more competitive. Utilizing these supplies and collecting data globally can impact decision making processes, and allow a business to gain from the resources.

Efficiency is another important factor. Another way businesses are being more efficient with the aid of information systems is how these systems allow members to hold conferences and meetings with executives from all over the world. Purchases, consumers, strategies, new ideas and innovations, and even company goals and objectives can be discussed via phone, video conferences, and other means. This helps influence efficiency.

Information systems allow businesses to be profitable as well. A business must be competitive and efficient in order to get the most profits, and becoming profitable ensures business success. Technology is a tool used to help in processing information systems, which is needed to operate more effectively. With the help of the internet and computers, more and more businesses are turning to online sales instead of having more store front properties. This can help increase profit, and decrease the amount of funding put into store front property.

Solution

I agree with you on all points except the term advantage used in reference to competitors. I agree that information systems are necessary and they provide advantages but they not necessarily provide competiveness. Most of the systems used by organizations are available and easy to copy. This means that they make systems efficient and easy to operate but in market they are not source of competitiveness any more in general aspects. Foe example, SAP is used by commonly most of the organizations, this means its likes everyone is having the technology.
