Functional Organization:

Groups similar occupational specialties together.

Divisional Organization

Made of semi-autonomous units or divisions and each division has its own goals that needs to complete. Usually a manager is in charge of an entire division that reports to one corporation.

Matrix Organization

On this type of organization specialists are assigned from different functional departments to work on one or more projects

Team based organization

Teams are created and all of them work towards the same goal and these teams are held accountable for the performance of the entire organization.

Virtual network organization

On this type of organization the company contracts out most of the functions, it may not even have an office.

If you were to choose one structure in which to work which would you choose and why?

I would chose team based organization because there is collaboration of many team members working towards the same goal and each employee shares its expertise on different subject to make the project successful

Wal-Mart works under divisional structure, each store has its own goals and they are overseas by a manager on a specific region or division and this person reports to the corporate offices.

Google has cross functional organization structure this is the matrix organization structure with 3 main characteristics: function based definition, product based definition and flatness
