6. (i) What is the basic purpose of employing work sampling technique? (ii) What is the basis of work sampling theory? When does the binomial distribution approach normal distribution? (ii) State the advantages and disadvantages of work sampling over stop-watch time study.

Solution

1:) Work sampling is a statistical technique used for calcilatong proportion of time spent for a particular work by taking some sample of workers.

11:) Basic of work sampling theory is to have a proper analysis on statistical menthod to evaluate the time taken for doing certain activities in a particular work. The theory will take real time data to evaluate the time taken, understanding any gaps in the process and will provide suggestion to improve it.

Binomial distribution are discrete in nature. Like it can take only a whole number from an observation, countable number can only be identified.Inorder to approximate binomial distribution normal distribution can be used.

111:) The advantages of stop watch time study are :

It calculate the accurate time taken for completion of certain task by set of sample people.

Advantage : It helps to identify the value and non value added activities.it can provide a quick overview of time factor involved in a sample study. It is economical and less time consuming , it can be done by anybody with limited knowledge.

Disadvantage : Detailing of analysis is not there in work sampling methods. The result totally depends on the nature of sample size and it may not throw the actual result always and sample size maybe insufficient in certain case. It is not economical for shorter time cycle studies and cannot be applicable for single men work.
