Find the values of the trigonometric functions of theta from the information given. tan(theta) = 21/20, theta in Quadrant III sin(theta) = -21 cos(theta) = -20 csc (theta) = -1/21 sec(theta) = -1/20 cot (theta) = 20/21

Solution

If tan(x) = 21/20

also, tan(x) = perpendicular / base

We know that

hypotenuse2 = perpendicular2 + base2

h2 = 212 + 202

h = 841

h = 29

then sin(x) = p/h =21/29 and sin is negative in 3rd quadrant so

sin(x) = -21/29

cos(x) = b/h = 20/29 and cos is negative in the 3rd quadrant so

cos(x) = -20/29

csc(x) = 1/sin(x) = -29/21

sec(x) = 1/cos(x) = -29/20

cot(x) = 1/tan(x) = 20/21
