Union in business

In the present day’s business society, a very significant role is being played by the unions in the business environment in different ways which are highlighted as below. First of all, the most important role of the union is to resolve any kind of conflict of deadlock between the management and the manpower which can result over the course of time, and it acts as a voice of employees in the current business environment.

Secondly, the other important role of the union can be seen in the process of collective bargaining. We can take the example of negotiation which takes place between the HR department and the union on the topic of manpower benefits.

Thirdly, the management and unions have a close association to avoid any kind of workplace conflict, ensuring smooth operations of the business and ensuring that the manpower is maintaining the minimum obligation which is required towards the employment and the employers.

Lastly, the union has a role in investigating the suspected breaches in things like; workplace laws, workplace safety laws, and discrimination laws

The main objective behind implementing Right to work law is to prohibit the agreement between the labor unions and employers, which regulate extend by which the union requires workers’ membership, fees, and union dues as terms of employment before and after employment. Therefore in the states where Right to Work law has been implemented, the strength and negotiation power of unions has been reduced significantly and they have been barred from asking their members about the payment fee of presentation. Apart from this, in the states where this law has been implemented, there are some additional advantages provided to the workers. For example, if the business is earning good economic profits then these benefits can be passed to the manpower in the form of increment in wages but these benefits are very small. Lastly, it is hard to disentangle right-to-work laws effects from state characteristics and policies that are unrelated to right-to-work laws
