A solution contains 25 g kg^-1 NaCl. Calculate the ocncentrations of Na+ and Cl- in mmol L^-1 ( assume colution density= 1.017 kg L^-1).

Solution

25 g of NaCl is present in 1kg of solution

given density = 1.017

volume of the solution = m/V = 1/1.017 = 0.9833 L

now molarity of Na+ = molarity of Cl- = mass/molarmass * 1/V

= 25/58.5 * 1/0.9833 = 0.4346

=> [Na+] = [Cl-] = 434.6 mmol/Litre
