Pick a job you have held, and describe it in terms of span of control, delegation, responsibility, authority, and accountability.
Note: The business world offers many varied opportunities to excel in the workplace. As workers we often do not stop to think about the terms listed in this question. The Unity of Command Principle refers to the basic rule that an employee must answer to a single manager and not several. An exception to this rule is the Matrix management concept. Your response here should be easily structured after having experienced the chosen organization where you worked.
Solution
Well I have worked as HR Manager in a consultancy firm. So, being a Manager there is lot of responsibilities towards the employees as well as the organization. If you ask about the Span of control- I had to supervise a less number of subordinates to assign them a certain a set of tasks with targets to be completed on time. Delegation- I used to delegate the responsibilities to another employees to get the work done on time and more efficiently. Responsibility - As I said there is a lot of responsibilities from managing the employees to implementation of rules and policies without violating it. Authority - there was line authority, to have command over the HR department and also to supervise the rules and policies for the appropriate functioning within the organisation. Accountability - I had to be more accountable on work.
So,Unity of Command is being followed by most of the organisation but, in our organization Matrix Management was being followed. Being an exception this management concept also gives the better output. Utilizing Matrix Management practices our firm was able to accomplish the tasks more efficiently as well as allowed the staffs to report to several supervisors which consumes less time in progression of work. And with using this concept, we spread our business in most of the places as we got numbers of clients.
