The word leader itself says many things about the individual and the role, the role may seem very easy but is that difficult if we look at it and actually play the role of a leader. In any field the role of the leader i important because the leader is followed by various individuals and the team to be specific therefore there are few criteria that each and every leader should possess in order to be effective. There are a lot of speculations regarding the actual capabilities of a leader and there are various skills defined that they should possess in order to be effective. I will like to discuss two of the most important points here.

The leader has to be bold because the role demands it as leadership will be difficult without this quality and in order to be successful in the role the individual has to draw the attention of the management and that may require a lot of attitude therefore the individual has to be bold in almost every situation the person experiences. The attitude and character should reflect from the style of communication the individual follows and this should be known to all. The individual should believe that he can actually add value to the organization through his skills and quality because he has to contribute towards the betterment of the organization to some extent.

The leader must also be able to see potential and determine that in the organization as well as in his team because he has to be a good decision maker here if he needs to succeed in the industry. If the organization has low potential in the industry then the approach should be different and vice versa and same for individuals too because if he has to run a team then he has to do it effectively and that is what is expected from him.

A leader also follows a style of leadership and this varies from person to person, there has been a lot of research regarding the style of the leaders and if there are two styles that needs to be discussed then the most popular and effective styles will be the autocratic style and the democratic style. In the autocratic style the leader tend to take decision with out even consulting the team and he takes complete authority of the team. the decision of the leader cannot be challenged by any team member in this style. The democratic style is something contrasting from that of the autocratic style because in this style the leader accepts suggestion and motivates the team to participate in everything so that the team performs together and yield better results for the organization.

According to me the democratic style or the participative style is most appropriate for leading myself and I believe that the team should also feel that they are a part of the contribution. The leader should play his role and guide the team to success but the team should also be given opportunity to make their statement so that they feel that even they are important. The theory is very simple here, the team needs to be successful and leader should play a positive role in this context instead of affecting the team negatively.
