Using what you know about parallel process, are there some industries or projects in which implementing this process would not be possible or effective? Provide an example to justify your opinion.
Solution
The parallel development process is adopted to reduce the overall lead time of a project where instead of performing the stages of the project sequentially, they are performed parallelly (partially) using different teams for the different stages. Thought this approach may be observed in many industries, relevant examples are found in the software and hardware industry.
For an example, consider the case of Intel Corporation\'s launch of the 386 microprocessor in 1986. To compete, Compaq beat other competitors by employing a partly parallel process to develop the product. The team included engineers (R&D) and marketing, production, and finance people. Each function worked in parallel rather than sequentially. While engineers were designing the product, production people were setting up the manufacturing fa-cilities, marketing people were working on distribution and planning marketing campaigns, and finance people were working on project funding.
