Here is a eukaryotic gene. The numbers are base pairs for each exon and intron. a) How long (in bases) will the primary mRNA transcript be? b) What is the maximum number of amino acids that could make up its protein product?
Solution
A)Counting exons only 36+90+66+120 = 312 Bp
B)Maximum no of amino acids will be 312/3. - 1 stop codon = 103 amino acids
Hope it helps .... Regards
