Find the numbers at which f is discontinuous If there are mu

Find the numbers at which f is discontinuous. If there are multiple discontinuities, separate the values with commas. f(x) = {Squareroot -x if x

Solution

checking the function continuiity at two points x = -1 and x = 2

at x= -1

lim x--> -1 f(x) = sqrt (-(-1)) = sqrt 1 = 1 and 1 < -1 not true

hence function is discontinuous at x=-1

at x = 2

lim x--->2 f(x) = sqrt (-2) = imaginary

lim x--->2 f(x) = 2-2 = 0 -1 <= x<2

lim x--> 2 f(x) = (2-2)^2 = 0 , x>= 2

at x= 2 the function is disntinuous

hence two numbers are

-1 , 2
