You are part of a customer service team who has gained a new manager. This manager has cultural traits that exhibit a formal, distant style. Your team feels that this new manager is not a good fit for them. In three to five paragraphs, explain how you would respond to your team.

Although informal managerial style is more appreciated in today’s generation, there’s nothing wrong with any manager going with his own distinct style in the form of formal leadership.

These are the following points basis which I would try to change the negative mindset about the new manager.

A major advantage of a manager who follows formal managerial technique is that they always have the executives contribute their opinion in business decisions. However, the final say lies with the manager himself. The communication flows down from the top of the hierarchy which encourages the team members to contribute their inputs and express what they want which in turn is definitely satisfying.

As the formal manager would like to keep his relation with his subordinates in a strict boss-subordinate manner, the total responsibility of carrying out a major business decision lies on the shoulders of the manager himself. A few inputs here and there is all that he requires from the subordinates to carry on the work. This has two advantages, the first one being, the subordinates do not have to stress about the deadlines nor they have to face the criticism when the project goes wrong.

Formal managers generally tend to be doing work on their own as they are more efficient and they are given leadership position based on their efficiency levels within a group. The formal leader can very well organize and direct group members to meet the goals of the organization and they are often the best leaders in a company.
