a What is the amount of salt in the tank initially amount k

(a) What is the amount of salt in the tank initially?
amount =? (kg)

(b) Find the amount of salt in the tank after 1 hours.
amount = ? (kg)

(c) Find the concentration of salt in the solution in the tank as time approaches infinity. (Assume your tank is large enough to hold all the solution.)

Solution

a) There is initially 50kg of salt in the tank.

b)
If no water was draining from the tank.
After 1 hour the tank would hold 50kg salt plus 1*60*12 = 720 litres + original 1000 litres = 1720 litres of water Each litre would contain 90/1720 = 0.0523 kg of salt
But in 1 hour 1*60*6 = 360 litres of water have drained away.
This would have taken 360* 0.0523 = 18.84kg of salt away to drain
Amount of salt in tank after 1 hour = 90-18.84 = 71.16kg salt

c) As time approaches infinity the volume would approach infinity, so the concentration would approach 0kg/litre.

(a) What is the amount of salt in the tank initially? amount =? (kg) (b) Find the amount of salt in the tank after 1 hours. amount = ? (kg) (c) Find the concent
