1. What video did you watch and what did you learn from watching the video?
2. What do you think are the best ideas for making global and long term changes to improve how we feed the people on this planet while caring for the planet?
3. What are three things you could do personally to eat more environmentally friendly?
Solution
1. What video did you watch and what did you learn from watching the video?
Ans: The vedio talks about the global food wastage scandel. Here in the vedio highlights about the food production and consumption of various countries and talks about the surplus food generated more than required by the population by some of the developed nations. The presenter talks about how the food get wasted at different stages and gave a soluttion to actually stop the wastage of food by feeding them to pigs and thus controlling the overall all carbon consumption in production of food for animals. Insted we can feed the food that got wasted to the pigs thus saving the envirnoment inturn.
2. What do you think are the best ideas for making global and long term changes to improve how we feed the people on this planet while caring for the planet?
Ans: a) Eating less meat. As more and more people worldwide eat more and more meat, vast areas of forest are cleared to grow grain to feed livestock. Ever-growing herds of cattle and goats destroy more areas of forest. Destruction of forests releases CO2 from trees and forest soils and leaves fewer forests worldwide to absorb atmospheric CO2. Large amounts of methane are released (especially by cows in the form of farts and belches). Gallons of fossil fuels are used to transport and prepare feed, to transport livestock from factory farms to slaughter and meat to the market.
b) Use resources much more efficiently. To reduce the environmental impacts of agriculture, low- and high-yield regions alike must practice agriculture with vastly greater efficiency: far more crop output per unit of water, fertilizer and energy.
c) Moving towards networked food system.Feeding people in a truly sustainable way will be one of the greatest challenges our civilization has ever faced. It will require the imagination, determination and hard work of countless people from all over the world. There is no time to lose.
3. What are three things you could do personally to eat more environmentally friendly?
a) I consume less meat and start shifting towards vegitables and only eat food that is sufficient by using smaller plates rather taking more amount of it which finally goes wastage.
b) I will start logging a weekly record of every food item i toss in the garbage. That way, i can notice patterns (e.g., every week i throw away half a gallon of spoiled milk) and tweakmy shopping habits accordingly. Certain apps can help by letting me know when something in your fridge is about to expire.
c) I will donate to food kitchens. If i haven’t yet tailored my weekly food purchases to my eating habits i think twice before trashing all that grub. Unfortunately there are individuals and families in need all over the country who would really appreciate the head of lettuce you were just about to toss. I will start by finding a local food bank and ask what kinds of food donations they accept.
