Contrast the attributes and functionality of an OODBMS versus an ORDBMS. Why are RDBMS platforms used more frequently in business than either of these object-oriented platforms?

Solution

OODBMS are based on Object Oriented data model and follow object oriented model principles. OODBMS have many advantages over traditional RDBMS but have few disadvantages as well.

OODBMS are good for storing complex ojects like objects with multi-valued attributes or objects composed of other objects. While as Relational db is preferred when dealing with relatively simple data, simple data relationships, and a static schema. ORDBMS is actually RDBMS with support for Object models to extend relational database systems to provide a bridge between the relational and object-oriented paradigms.

OODBMSs achieve seamless integration with a programming language such as C++, Java.

Another advntage is that OODBMS does not neccessarily require UML class to transform into relations. While as RDBMS requires data in relations.

The reason for RDBMS being used more frequently is that RDBMS  have been around for more than 40 years and RDBMS technology is mature and OODBMS are relatively new. But now a days OODBMS and other noSql DBMS are gaining more and more importance because of the advantages. MongoDB is one such DBMS which is now being extensively used for complex applications.
