The top of a 220 foot vertical tower is to be anchored by cables that make an angle with a measure of 52 degrees with the ground. How long must each cable be? feet How far from the base of the tower should the anchors be placed? feet

Solution

Here hypotenuse is the length of cable

opposite is the height of the tower

sin theta=opposite/hypotenuse

sin 52=220/l

l=220/sin 52=279.2 foot

cos theta=adjacent/hypotenuse

cos 52=x/220

x=220 cos 52=135.4 foot

SO the anchors should be placed 135.4 foot from the base
