At 2100hrs an infusion pump is set to deliver 1 litre of Hartman’s Solution to Mr Plumb at a rate of 85mls/hr. After 6 hours the pump is reset to 50mls/hr. Calculate the finishing time?

Solution

Infusion pump must have delivered = 85*6 = 510 mls of solution

We still need to deliver 1000mls - 510 mls = 490 mls of sloution

Time required to deliver 490 mls of solution = 490/50 = 9.8 hours = 9 hours and 48 minuted

Total time taken to deliver 1 ltr of sloution is 15 hours and 48 minutes.

So, finishing time will be 12:48 p.m.
