Find the equation of a linePassing through 2 5 and Perpendic

Find the equation of a line:Passing through (-2, 5) and Perpendicular to the line:-2y-x=-35 Find the x- and y- intercept for the line:-4x+7y= -56

Solution

3 a ) Line perpendicular to -2y -x = -35

2y = -x +35 ----> y = -(x/2) +35/2

m = -1/2

So, Line perpendicular to above has a slope = 2

So, y = 2x +c .Find c using point ( -2 , 5)

5 = -4 +c ----> c = 9

y = 2x +9

b) -4x +7y =-56

x intercept : plug x =0 ; -4x +0 =-56

x = -14

( -14 , 0)

y intercept : plug y =0 ; 0 +7y = -56

y =-8

( 0, -8)
