Solve the equation by completing the square 2x^2 - 4x + 5 = 6

Solution

2x^2 - 4x +5 =6

2(x^2 -2x) + 5 =6

2(x^2 -2x +1 -1) +5 =6

2(x -1)^2 -2 +5 =6

2(x-1)^2 +3 =6

2(x -1)^2= 3

(x-1)^2 = 3/2

Taking square root on both sides:

x-1= +/- sqrt(3/2)

x = 1 +sqrt(3/2)

x = 1 - sqrt(3/2)

 Solve the equation by completing the square 2x^2 - 4x + 5 = 6Solution2x^2 - 4x +5 =6 2(x^2 -2x) + 5 =6 2(x^2 -2x +1 -1) +5 =6 2(x -1)^2 -2 +5 =6 2(x-1)^2 +3 =6
