You have determined that the accuracy of an air pressure sensor depends on the temperature and humidity. If the temperature contributes an error (uncertainty) of 1.2 psi and the humidity contributes 0.5 psi, what uncertainty (in psi) would you report for the overall pressure measurement?
Solution
Pressure is directly proportional to temperature and inversely proportional to humidity .
Hence uncertainity in overall pressure measurement will be the sum/ difference of uncertainities of the factors upon which it depends ( Temperature and humidity in this case)
Hence uncertainity = temperature uncertainity - humidity uncertainity
= 1.2 psi - 0.5 psi = 0.7 psi
