As a manager, if you see or hear about negative employee behavior such as absenteeism, tardiness,or negative behavior. What will be a method you will use to determine the symptom of the problem? Please explain your reply.

Solution

An employees’ negative behavior impacts the work life of other employees. I would prefer talking to the particular employee creating the negative vibes in the workplace. I would ask the employee what causes the negative impact in the work. I would listen to the employee’s concerns and complaints until the employee pours out his feelings to me. A very close interpersonal relationship needs to be maintained at this point to gain the trust of the employee. The employee should feel he is heard and listened to. If the employee’s concerns are genuine, then I would take immediate action to resolve the problem causing the concerns. For other concerns, I would ask the employee the reason why they arise and ask him to wait patiently until there is a resolution to the problems. As a manager I would make the employee understand the importance as to why he needs to cooperate. Then once he understands the timeline, goals and his positive behavior to achieve the goals, then his negativity would change.
