Quiz 4. (Math136 - Fall 2017) Note: You need to show necessary steps. Otherwise, zero credit will be given. 1. Use a calculator to find the approximate value of each expression. Round the answer to two decimal places. (a) sin 14° (b) co CO Let f(z) = sin z, g(z-cosz, h(z) = 21 and p(z) = 4z. Find the value of each of the following 2. (a) + 9)(30) (b) (ho f(i) (c) (po g) (45) 3. Suppose the point (3,-4) lies on the terminal side of an angle in standard position. Find the exact value of each of the six trigonometric functions of . . Find the reference angle of each angle (a) -240

Solution

1) a) sin 14

using calculator to find the value

sin 14 = 0.24

b) cot ( 5pi/12 )

= 1/ 3.732

cot ( 5pi/12 ) = 0.27

2) a) ( f + g)(30 ) = f(30) + g(30)

= sin 30 + cos 30

= 1/2 + sqrt 3 /2

= ( 1 + sqrt 3) / 2

b) ( h o f ) (pi/6 )

= 2 ( sin pi/6 )

= 1

c) ( p o g ) (45 )

= 4 ( cos 45 )

= 4 * sqrt 2 /2

= 2 sqrt 2
