50 mm 200 mm 2d 50 mm 150 mm F SolutionGiven d 175 mm Fir

50 mm 200 mm 2d 50 mm 150 mm F

Solution

Given : d = 17.5 mm .

First of all, we find the original length of BE

That is (502+1502)1/2 = 158.11 mm.

After deformation , point B is displaced by d × 200/250 to the right

i.e. displaced (17.5× 200/250) =14 mm to the right.

And Point E is displaced by 2d× 50/250 to the right

i.e. displaced by ( 2×17.5× 50/250) = 7mm to the right .

Hence the new length of BE is [ 502+{150-(14-7)}2]1/2

i.e. (502+ 1432)1/2 = 151.49 mm.

Strain along BE = (new length - original length)/ original length

= -6.62/158.11 = -0.042
