Use the kinetic molecular theory of gases to predict what would happen to a closed sample of a gas whose temperature increased while its volume decreased.

Solution

As the temperature of a closed sample of gas increases the velocity of motion of the gas molecules will increase and also the collision frequency of the molecules with each other & the walls of the container increases. Thus we can say that the pressure exerted by gas molecules on the walls of container would increase & force exerted on walls of container by gas molecules would also increase.
