Two professors survey thier class to find out how popular they were among the students. Both had ten students in their respective classes, sections 7324 and 7325. Below please find their evaluation by their students on their overall satisfaction with the class. The students ranked their level of satisfaction from 1 to 5, 1 being the lowest, and 5 the highest.

CLASS 7324: 1,4,3,4,5,5,4,3,4,5

Mean = 3.8, Median = 4, Mode = 4, Range =4, Standard Deviation = 1.22   

CLASS 7325: 3,4,5,5,3,4,4,4,3,3

Mean = 3.8, Median = 4, Mode = 3/4, Range = 2, Standard Deviation = 0.79

Can we tell from these numbers who is more popular? What does the standard deviation tell us? Why?

a.) The Range for class 7325 is less than for class 7324 and also mode for 7325 is 3/4 so the class 7325 is more popular.

b.) The standard deviation tells us how far the values are from the mean.
