USA\'s changing role: USA is no longer considered the sole engine of global economic gowth. Countries like China and Brazil and India are contributing to the global economic growth more than the developed countries like USA. This has resulted in rapid globalization and the world becoming flatter. 3 examples - (i) US companies do not have national boundries anymore. The HR trend or rather requirement is that there has to be appropriate mix of employees in the organization in terms of skills, knowledge and experience. (ii) changing skills requirement - USA powered its way ahead on the back of its manufacturing power. As the role of US is changing as a world power, new and emerging countries are coming up on the back of their service sectors like Information Technology (IT), consultancy etc. Thus skill requirements are also changing accordingly, and employees these days are considered to be knowledge workers with high intellectual skills and capabilities. (iii) Decentralized work sites - As the world is getting flatter with increasing globalization, employees can be working from any corner of the globe.

Global leadership: This new trend of HRM is also concerned with the impact of globalization. Corporations are increasingly expanding their operations beyond their home country. examples of global leadership are (i) many companies are appointing heads and CEOs for a specific region, rather than a specific country. For example companies will have the post of President - APAC (Asia pacific region). The President is responsible for the entire APAC region and includes all countries and markets in that region. (ii) Global leadership is putting emphasis on the need to handle different cultures, different product lines. Global leaders are expected to grasp the nuances of dealing with this diversity in their role. (iii) Global leadership is expected to have an omnipresence and knowledge of all its markets. For example Jeff Bezos of Amazon has as good a knowledge of Amazon\'s market in India as he has of the market in USA.
