A narrow straight pipe with only one end open has a fundamen

A narrow, straight pipe with only one end open has a fundamental resonance frequency of 300 Hz (precise to 3 SF) when the speed of sound in air is 336 m/s. (a) How long is the pipe? List the next two higher resonance frequencies of this pipe in any order. You need nol show any work.

Solution

Fundamental frequency f = 300 Hz

Speed of sound v =336 m/s

(a). We know f = v / 4L        Since it is closed an one end and open at other end

From this length of the pipe L = v/4f

                                           = 336/(4x300)

                                           = 0.28 m

(b). Next frequencies f \' = 3f = 3 x 300 Hz = 900 Hz

                             f \" = 5f = 5 x300 Hz = 1500 Hz

(c).Number of nodes in fundamental frequency is one

A narrow, straight pipe with only one end open has a fundamental resonance frequency of 300 Hz (precise to 3 SF) when the speed of sound in air is 336 m/s. (a)
