For the following problems define the constant of proportion
For the following problems, define the constant of proportionality to answer the following up question. Bananas are $.60 for one pound. What is the constant of proportionality, k? How much will 20 pounds of bananas cost? For every $6 that Jason saves, his parents give him $8. What is the constant of proportionality, k? If he saves $120, how much money will his parents give him? Find the constant of proportionality for the following table.
Solution
1. given for 1 pound of bananas cost is $60
20 pounds of bananas cost = 20 X 60 = $1200
constant of proportionlity is $60
2.for $6 he save he get $8
constant of proportionlity = 8/6 = 4/3
if he saves $120 he get 4/3 * 120 = $160
3. constant of proportionality for the given table = 4/3 = 1.333
