Answer 1. The Human resource manager needs to understand strategy, because the human resource manager needs align the human resource process (human resource development, recruitment, skill-set etc.) in such a way that it will meet future demand/requirement of organization in terms of human resources and their skill-sets, capability and expertise.

If the Human resource manager is not understand the strategy, then the manager will not initiate the future HRM actions, whose output will be needed in order to meet the readiness as per strategy plan of the organization.

Answer 2- Following terms are used for defining the strategy and its processes.

Objectives – The measurable output the organization wants to achieve.

Competitive Scope – The scope of competition the company wants to achieve

Action Plan – The action plan required for the strategy achievement

Advantage – The benefits the organization expected from strategy

Goals – The aim company wants to achieve from the strategy

Plan – The plan which helps the organization to drive towards future.

Answer 3- Organizational strategy: It is defined as the strategy of the organization which will develop the long term approach /plan for the organization to achieve long term outcomes as Customer satisfaction, Profitability and Competitive Advantage

Restructuring – This is the strategy which will meet the Turnaround, divestiture, liquidation and bankruptcy requirements for the organization.

Growth – The strategy for meeting the incremental, international, merger and acquisitions requirements of the organization.

Maintenance – The strategy of the organization which will drive the preventive maintenance and normal maintenance for the organization.

Business Strategy:- It is defined as the strategy developed for the particular business line to develop its competitive advantage in the market and achieve its long term business/development/growth plans.

This is only for the business line under corporate.

These are business level decisions.

Corporate Strategy: It is defined as the strategy developed for the corporate level to develop the overall corporate’s competitive advantage in the market and achieve their long term business/development/growth plans.

This is for the whole corporate organization.
