Jerry Maguire is the movie which was released in 1996. It was inspired by the Technical consultant in the crew, sports agent Leigh Steinberg.
The Jerry was trying to expose the illegal practices prevailing the company where he was working. When He had the moral epiphany about the illegal practices then he was not willing to follow the same. Then, he was fired from the job.
Jerry was working with the company “Sports Management International”. He has found that there were illegal practices are following within the company. So, he has opposed to it and has created a new mission statement stating that he wants to work with only few clients so as to give the better quality. He also mentioned in the statement that the sticky business relations would convert into the personal relations with time. He has taken the lead and intimated to the company authority. But the supervision authority of the company was not agreeing with it. So, they tried to fire the Jerry. The conflict was arising as he was the technical consultant and he was taking decision what to do or not. Supervisor is the higher authority to decide this. Conflict also arises as clients feel that he is not working properly as per the mission given by him.
The people working with the company did not join the Jerry as he was working for the better cause which clearly shows that the people was focussing only on the money less on the people. As they work for the company so it shows that the company don’t have the moto of “focus on people, less on money”. Company was trying to increase the number of clients for the money by any means or for their profit. They were not focussing on the people’s sports talent. It depicts the direction of the priority of the company.
In the case of Jerry, he has created the mission but what happened that rare people think about that and had planned to open his agency. He did not follow the companies culture. He had the leadership quality. He knows the ethics of the business but still he did not convince the other people of the organisation. With his distinguished behaviour he was got fired from the job. There was conflict within the employees of the organisation. In order to run an organisation in the effective manner the companies Vision, Mission and strategies must align with the leadership and culture of an organisation. As if he company vision, Mission and strategies should be cleared before itself then might not Jerry join the company. The leaders of the company should make others (employees) to understand how the Knowledge of objective of the company creates the culture, strategies and leadership qualities among them.
If you were in Jerry Maguire’s position, I would have attempted the same thing as he did. I would try to talk with the employees of the company then after the higher officials of the company. If nothing happened I would convince the client of the company. I would try to stop the wrong don’t by the organisation to its clients and trying to disclose the companies wrong done. I would keep the proofs of all the thing which I would came to know about the company. I work for the evidence searching. After Gathering all the facts and evidences I would trying to convince the people and clients of the company and established my own agency that works for the better business.
