I need help with the following question, and please don\'t use explanations/answers from different sources. Thank you!

\"An increase in the demand for notebooks raises the quantity of notebooks demanded but not the quantity supplied.\"

Is this statement true or false? Please explain.

Solution

Firstly an increase in the demand for notebooks will be brought about by external factors and will cause a shift in the demand curve and not a movement along the demand curve. A change in the price level will cause a movement along the demand curve. An increase in the demand for notebooks will mean that demand will increase but quantity supplied will also increase but with a lag. This statement is thus false. A rise in demand will cause a rise in supply but with a lag. But an increase in demand and an increase in quantity demanded needs to be distinguished. An increase in demand is due to a change in external factors. A change in quantity demanded is due to a change in price.
