How many protein molecules are there in 100 ng of the protein expressed from a 1.5 kb gene? Please explain in detail ( solving process )

Solution

1.5 Kb gene means 1500 bp. each amino is being coded by 3bp.

therefore, 1500 bp codes for (1500/3) amino acids. i.e 500 amino acid.

Each amino acid has a molecular weight of 110 Da.

so weight of 500 amino acid= 500* 110 = 55,000 Da = 91300 * 10 ^-24 g = 9.13* 10 ^-20 g

No. of protein molecules in 100 ng proein= 100ng/( 9.13 * 10 ^-20g) = (100* 10 ^-9 g) / (9.13 * 10 ^-20 g) = 1.095* 10 ¹²
