Solution
1. 0.5% of 2017=( 0.5/100)×2017= 10085/1000= 10.085
2.(-5x5)(-2x2)2= (-5×22)×(x5×x-4) = -20x ;here use the addition law and multiplication law of indices
3. Using simultaneous equations multiply the first equation by 2 and the second one by 5 to make the coefficients of x same in both, then the equations become 10x-6y=26 and 10x-25y=-5 now subtract equation 2 from 1 it will be 31y=31 thus y=1 and now substitute the value of y in any equation and the value of x = 2
4. This is a modulus problem where in the first case only the positive value of (2x-3) will be equated to 5 as given in the question thus we get x=8/2= 4
In the second case we take -(2x-3)= 5
This gives x=-1 thus the value of x lies in the range -1 to 4
