The graph of a quadratic equation is shown here. What is the formula of this equation? y = -x^2 - 3x - 4 y = -x^2 + 3x - 4 y = -x^2 - 6x - 4 y = -x^2 + 6x - 4

Solution

as the equation is quadritic in nature, so let it

y=ax2+bx+c.......................(1)

now from graph just find atleast 3 points lying on graph

eg. (0,-4),(3,5) and (5,1)

putting in (1)

we get,

c=-4 ; { by putting (0,-4) }

5a+b=1 ; 3a+b=3;

solving above equations we get , a=-1,b=6 and c=-4

so by putting in (1) we get, y=-x2 +6x-4

hence d is the correct option.

alternatively put these points in options and get the result as the equation that satisfies.
