What are the diagrams defined in the UML Standard. Give a one or two sentence description of each one.

Solution

There are 2 main segregation of UML diagrams.

First one is Structural diagrams and the other one is behavioral diagrams.

1)Structural Diagrams:In simple words,these diagrams represents the static or non moving or non changing aspects of the system under consideration.These diagrams dont change with the conditions or the flow of the program

These structural diagrams are furthur classified into class,object,deployment and component diagrams

1.a)class diagrams:These diagrams show the number of classes,attributes,methods and relationships among objects.

1.b)object diagrams:These diagrams are very similar to class diagrams,but here more importance is given to the set of objects and attributes and their relationships.

1.c)Deployment diagrams:Here importance is given to the topology of the components of the diagram

1.d)Component diagrams:Component diagrams focus on a set of components and their relationships. These components consist of classes, interfaces or collaborations.They are mostly used during implementation .

2.Behavioral diagrams:These diagrams focuses on the dynamic or moving aspects of the program.i.e as the conditions or situations arises in the program,depending on the situation,the diagram changes.The various behavioral programs are furthur classified into

2.a)Use case diagram:Here we tell who are the actors in the system,relationship among them and also the various tasks or use cases appearing in the system.Each use case deals with each functions or responsibilities or tasks which has to be carried out by the system.

2.b)Sequence diagram:Here observation is done on sequence of events happening between the objects in the system.Timing sequence between data flowing is important here.So such a name was given.

2.c)Collaboration diagram:These diagrams are very similar to sequence diagrams.The difference between collaboration and diagram and sequence diagram is that in collaboration diagram communication is given importance.

2.d)Statechart diagram:These diagram focuses on response of the system by different factors.These factors can be internal or external.

2.e)Activity diagram:These diagrams tell how the system will work when executed.
