If someone has a problem with their sympathetic nervous system having depressed (insufficient) activity, how would this affect their exercise capacity? What would be different about their circulatory and respiratory system responses to exercise?

Solution

When body exercises, thw muscle needs energy. To fulfill these energy demands, body oxidises substrates faster and so more amount of oxygen is required. So sympathetic system increases the uptake of oxygen by increasing heart rate and respiratory rate. Now when sympathetic nervous system is depressed, body is unable to perform aerobic oxidation so it switches to anaerobic oxidation , as a result of which lactic acid accumulates in the muscles and fatigue occurs. Performance is deteriorated and person is no longer able to exercise.
