Anatomy question related to the CNS and PNS:

Why don’t you feel the shirt you are wearing (unless you focus your attention on it - like you are probably doing right now)? There are two possible reasons

Solution

Sensory adaptation/neural adaptation - Change in the response of a sensory system upon constant stimulus. The change can be either positive or negative.

Eg: Sustained touching.

When we put clothes on our body, at first the Meissner\'s corpuscles of the touch receptor will recognize and get activated. We will feel the sensation of clothes touching on us. After sustained exposure (continuous wearing), the Meissner\'s corpuscles will cease to react to the stimulus. When the stimulus (shirt) is removed, the activity of the corpusles are regained.
