a rectangular tank measures 800 meters long 400 meters wide
a rectangular tank measures 8.00 meters long, 4.00 meters wide, and 2.00 meters deep. the tank is partially filled with kerosene (density 820 kilograms per cubic meter); the depth of the kerosene is 1.50 meters. calculate:

a) the hydrostatic pressure on pressure on the bottom of the tank;
b) the hydrostatic force on the bottom of the tank;
c) the hydrostatic force on one end of the tank.
d) if the tank was filled with water instead of kerosene , what would be the pressure on one end of the tank?
a) the hydrostatic pressure on pressure on the bottom of the tank;
b) the hydrostatic force on the bottom of the tank;

d) if the tank was filled with water instead of kerosene , what would be the pressure on one end of the tank?
Solution
(a) hydrostatic pressure = hg =(1.5)*(820)*(9.8) = 12054 Pa
(b) Force = Pressure * Area = 12054*8*4=385728N
(c) hydrostatic force on end of the tank= Pressure* area =12054*4*2 =96432 N
(d) pressure = (1.5)*(1000)*(9.8) =14 700 Pa
