Thanks

Rachel Simmons has $27,000 invested in stock A and stock B. Stock A currently sells for $30 a share and stock B sells for $60 a share. If stock B triples in value and stock A goes up 50%: her stock will be worth $76,500. How many shares of each stock does she own? Rachel owns__shares of stock A and__shares of stock B.

Solution

Let, X shares of A and Y of B

So,

27000=30X+60Y or

2700=3X+6Y

900=X+2Y

Using given condition:

1.5*30X+3*60Y=76500

45X+180Y=76500

5X+20Y=8500

X+4Y=1700

Subtracting first from second gives:

2Y=800

Y=400

X=100

So, 100 shares of A and 400 of B
