Will a Hamming scheme for error-correcting code be able to correct an error if it is a single-bit error in one of the parity bits?
Solution
Yes, as Hamming Codes are designed for correcting a single bit, and detecting the errors for more than 1 bit, the errors having more than 1 bit are also corrected but not efficiently, but if the number of parity bits are increased, the Hamming code will be able to correct 1 error, and detect double errors, and as on increasing the parity bit, the hamming Scheme will also be able to correct an error of single bit in parity.
So, the Conclusion is that the Hamming Scheme will be able to correct an error if it is a single bit error in parity, after adding a parity bit.
